WATCH: Langley family stuck with live power line in their backyard after windstorm

WATCH: It’s not a power outage that has one Langley family worried. The problem, as Julia Foy reports, is that their live power line has been damaged, and is dangling in their backyard.

BC Hydro has now restored power to thousands of homes across Metro Vancouver, but it’s not the outage that has one Langley family worried.

The problem is that their live power line has been damaged and is dangling in their backyard.

Since Saturday’s windstorm knocked down a massive tree in Richard Starnes’ backyard, the family has been anxiously waiting for BC Hydro’s help because the tree fell on live power lines, which are now inching toward the swimming pool.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Starnes says he is worried because the line is now only six inches above the pool and he is concerned it will eventually break.

Richard’s family was out of town during the storm, but came home to find a dangerous situation just steps from their door.

His wife Kim runs a daycare at her house, elevating the concerns.

After three days of attempts, the Starnes did reach someone at BC Hydro, but what they told them didn’t calm their nerves.

They say the person on the other end kept re-iterating that they should stay 33 feet away from the wire.

While no one was available to comment on the Starnes situation to Global News, BC Hydro CEO Jessica McDonald did acknowledge the frustration many customers experienced when the company’s website was down for almost 48 hours during and after the storm.
