REGINA – SaskEnergy is warning its customers in the Moose Jaw and Saskatoon area of a telemarketing scam that is targeting businesses.

The Crown corporation says several customers have called about individuals posing as SaskEnergy employees over the phone. The callers then threaten to disconnect the customer’s natural gas if payment is made immediately.

The callers are telling customers to call back with credit card information, and the following callback numbers have been recorded: 1-800-930-6079 and 1-306-992-0681

One customers also reported that someone came into their businesses posing as a SaskEnergy employee and made similar demands.

SaskEnergy says they do not request payment information over the phone and do not accept prepaid debit or credit cards. Additionally they do not make personal visits regarding matters of non-payment/disconnecting gas.

People who encounter a phone scammer are encouraged to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre at 1-888-495-8501. If an individual shows up in person to collect a payment customers are advised to call their local police.
