Thousands invade Wascana Park for summer send-off

REGINA – It’s considered the summer’s last ‘hurray.’ SaskTel Summer Invasion is the last big music festival of the season and is expected to draw thousands to Wascana Park over the weekend.

Set up was well underway Friday morning and festival coordinator Doug Elder said a lot of elbow grease turns the event into a reality.

“We all start going back into different jobs and school in the fall here so it’s definitely a good way to end the season on a great, fun note.”

The big draw for the event’s 10-year milestone is the music, with headliner Lights set to entertain hundreds on the main stage.

The festival announced over social media that the second headliner Lil Jon, had to cancel.

There’s also an impressive list of Saskatchewan artists set to perform throughout the weekend. Elder said the crowd sets the festival apart from others.

“We have a ton of young staff working with us and we really want to cater to that youth and young demographic,” he explained.

That’s not to say there isn’t something for everyone with a variety of daytime activities for families, including The Kid Zone and water sports on Wascana Lake.

“Kids can come down and we teach them how to wakeboard and teach them how to surf and just show them the sport,” said Tyler Fraess with Martin Motor Sports.

Daytime activities from noon until 7:00 p.m are free, but tickets to the night performances are available at OffAxis Boardshop locations, online, or at the gate.
