WATCH: 8-year-old’s joyride stopped by Minnesota state trooper

It was an ill-fated getaway that thankfully ended without injuries.

Minnesota State Patrol released dashcam footage earlier this week of a trooper pulling over an eight-year-old on a 30-kilometre joyride late April.

Trooper Kyle Klawiter responded to calls about an erratic driver on a highway during the morning rush hour.

Witness Eric Brown told Fox affiliate KMSP that he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the pint-sized driver behind the wheel.

“I was like that can’t be true, that can’t be true. Something is wrong,” he said.

Footage shows Klawiter follow the child onto a residential road. The eight-year-old eventually pulls the white Buick into a driveway, but backs up into the patrol car before putting the car into park.

Klawiter approaches the vehicle, opens the driver’s door and out comes the child wearing pajamas with a backpack and a plastic bag full of his belongings.

His five-year-old foster sister and her three-year-old brother, clad in a striped onesie, clamber out of the car.

State Patrol would not provide an interview with Global News due to the juveniles involved in the case, but said in an email that the children were returned to their foster family unharmed and the case was closed.

Ramsey County Social Services and St. Paul Police Department conducted the investigation and according the reports, the boy has a history of running away.
