With so many events in and around Toronto, it’s hard to keep track of what’s happening and what’s worth venturing out for. Here are five things we recommend doing in the city this weekend.
Sing-a-long with ‘Grease’
If you’re a fan of the 1978 John Travolta-Olivia Newton-John musical Grease there’s no better way to wrap up the last weekend in August than by attending a big sing-a-long of the classic film. And the TIFF Bell Lightbox is screening it a total of three times this weekend so you have no excuse not to see it. You can see it at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday or Sunday (or attend all three and show how big a fan you really are). Get into the Grease mood with the video below and visit tiff.net for more info.

Support the Greenbelt and see some great bands
The annual Greenbelt Harvest Picnic at Christie Lake Conservation Area in Dundas celebrates and supports Ontario’s Greenbelt, local farmers and artists. This year’s lineup includes the likes of Kathleen Edwards, Gordon Lightfoot, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Bahamas and headliners Arkells. The event runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight (bands start at 12 p.m.). Tickets are $89.50 + fees and can be purchased online at harvestpicnic.ca (tickets for youths 11-15 are $19.95 + fees and kids under 10 are free).
Camp on Toronto Island
If you ever wanted to camp on Toronto Island, you can this weekend thanks to Camp Wavelength — a festival hosted by local non-profit/community music hub, Wavelength Music. For $150 per person you catch three days of live music while camping Friday and Saturday night on the Island. Bands include Holy F–k (Friday at 9 p.m.), Doldrums (Friday at 8 p.m.), The Wooden Sky (Saturday at 9 p.m) and Do Make Say Think (Sunday at 9 p.m.), along with many more (and yes, the bands are camping as well). See some world-class street performers
Yes, Yonge St. is closed this weekend, but if you enjoy watching street performers you’re in luck as some of the world’s best will be in town for the 2015 Toronto International Buskertfest. Featuring over 150 acts, including musicians, dancers, pyro-performers and Meow Mur (see video below), the event should please all ages, all weekend long. Admission to Buskerfest is donation-based with a portion going to Epilepsy Toronto. For more information on Buskerfest, visit torontobuskerfest.com.

Add some colour to your life
If throwing coloured powder on people and having coloured powder thrown at you sounds fun, the Toronto Colour Festival at Woodbine Beach on Sunday is sure to please. The event, which starts at 12 p.m. and is open to all ages, costs $15, $25 or $35 depending on how many colour packs you want (one colour pack is mandatory to attend). Ongoing events in the city include the CNE, Full House: The Musical!, the exhibit Andy Warhol Revisited: A Mirror For Today and many outdoor movie screenings.
