Watch the video above: Global’s chief meteorologist Anthony Farnell explains why it’s been so cold and delivers some good news for southern Ontario very soon.
TORONTO – Don’t fret: this cooler-than-normal August weather isn’t a sign of an early fall. Hot weather is heading back to southern Ontario.
At this time of year most of southern Ontario should be seeing temperatures near 25 C. Instead, it’s been several degrees below that. On Wednesday, for example, Toronto only reached a high of 20.1 C (normal daytime high is 24 C). Windsor was just 19.5 C with a normal daytime high of 19.5.
And it’s been particularly difficult adjusting to this cooler weather after enjoying (or not) a week of temperatures that soared to 30 C or higher.
What’s responsible is the jet stream: it’s been pulling in cooler air from the north. But as of Friday, the pattern is going to change.
On Friday, the region will be back to near-normal temperatures. Toronto will see a daytime high near 25 C. And things are just going to get better.
By the weekend, the mercury will climb closer to 30 C and remain that way for the next week or longer.
So don’t put away those shorts and bathing suits yet: there’s still more summer weather in store.
