Planned power outages on the way for Winnipeg neighbourhoods

WINNIPEG — Three different areas in Winnipeg’s west end will lose electrical service on Wednesday and Thursday. The outages will affect 1,520 Manitoba Hydro customers and all traffic lights in the areas. The outages are necessary to replace hydro poles in the area, Manitoba Hydro said in a news release.

The first planned power outage will start on Wednesday and last two hours from 10 a.m. to noon, interrupting electrical service to two areas. The first area is bounded by Elgin Avenue to Winnipeg Avenue and McPhilips Street to Tecumseh Street. The second is bounded by Alverstone Street to Victor Street and Wellington Avenue to Winnipeg Avenue.

Roughly 1, 100 customers will lose power during this outage.

The second outage is planned for Thursday and is only expected to last from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The area from Sherbrook Street to Spence Street and Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue will be affected.

Roughly 420 customers will lose power during this outage.
