SASKATOON – The fourth annual Run for Mandi took place at River Landing in Saskatoon Saturday, helping to raise thousands in memory of a Saskatchewan hockey player who died of cancer. The event is in honour of Mandi Schwartz, a Wilcox hockey player who passed away in 2011 at the age of 23 after a two-year battle with leukemia.
A couple of NHL players were on hand for the event including Jaden Schwartz, Mandi’s brother, who plays for the St. Louis Blues.

A total of $28,000 was raised Saturday and goes towards a bursary and foundation in memory of Schwartz.
“The foundation and the bursary that are done in her name are really in the spirit of what she believed in, which is giving back to people,” said event organizer Jeremy Schwartz.
“The foundation helps people going through cancer, raises awareness for the bone marrow drives and the bursary helps female athletes.”
The event has raised over $130,000 since it began.
