SASKATOON – Police are again advising the public of fake tax calls in Saskatoon. The warning comes after police say the received around 100 complaints Thursday about the scam.

The caller claims that taxes are owed to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and then uses threatening or aggressive language to frighten people into paying the fake debt by credit card or money transfer.

CRA officials say there are established procedures in place to ensure personal information is protected and the authenticity of a call can be made by calling their office.

They also say they never ask for payment by prepaid credit cards, ask for passport, health card or driver’s licence information and never share tax information with another person unless appropriate authorization has been given.
