KELOWNA — BNA Brewing Co. & Eatery in Kelowna dishes up more than just food and craft beer, it also boasts of its “clean, cool and classy” washrooms.

The washrooms caught the eye of a Cintas Canada Ltd. representative, who nominated the restaurant for the company’s sixth annual Canada’s Best Restrooms competition.

BNA is the only B.C. restaurant to make the cut. Three businesses in Alberta and one restaurant in Ontario are also in the running.

The restaurant’s co-owner, Carolyn Nixon, says she’s excited to make it to the top five.

“Our washrooms were put together through myself, my sister-in-law and my husband…we put some heart and soul into these bathrooms and that’s what makes them special,” says Nixon.

BNA is located in a building that was once home to the British North American Tobacco Company. Nixon says the lavatories try to maintain their heritage while looking modern.

“We really tried to mix a lot of vintage glam with the walls of the original building.”

There’s a women’s and men’s washroom on the first floor, and unisex washroom on the top floor.

Nixon says the unisex bathroom is a chance for strangers to socialize.

“What I really like about [this sink] is it’s a natural flirting station for these men and women, who meet each other in the bathroom and maybe strike up some conversation while washing their hands,” says Nixon.

Cintas judges the lavatories based on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements.
