EDMONTON — Alberta opposition parties want more information about the government’s decision to cancel a $3-billion contract for Edmonton-area medical lab services.
Last week Health Minister Sarah Hoffman said there isn’t enough evidence to prove that the deal with Sonic Healthcare to expand private delivery of lab tests would be beneficial.

Wildrose health critic Drew Barnes says Albertans deserve to know the reasons for the policy change. He says the Wildrose filed a freedom of information request to the government, but some of the documents they received were blacked out.

Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann says a new super-lab for Edmonton and northern Alberta is urgently needed.
He says delays in getting a new lab built will severely affect patient care.
