WATCH: Dashcam records Ohio officer’s dramatic efforts to save life of crashed trucker

Viral dashcam footage shows the dramatic moments Ohio Highway Patrol trooper Eric Devers resuscitated a crashed trucker.

Devers pulls up to the site of the crash and runs down what he described as an 18-metre embankment, where trucker John Depue was still buckled into his seat.

“He was taking very, very low, gasping breaths. Didn’t hardly look like he was alive at all,” Devers told Fox News.

A news release said Depue’s eyes rolled back into his head shortly after Dever arrived.

Like a scene from an action flick, Devers can be heard screaming, “Don’t you die! Don’t you die on me! Don’t you die on me! Come on!” before launching into chest compressions and directing a passerby who had stopped to help.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said the trooper was with Depue and performing CPR for 12 minutes before paramedics arrived.

Depue, who has made a full recovery, said he couldn’t even recall hitting the guard rail and crashing into the embankment. Doctors told him he suffered from an atrial fibrillation, which means his heart was beating at an abnormal, rapid rhythm.

“How can you [just] say ‘thank you’ for saving your life?” said an emotional Depue. “I definitely think he was my angel that day.”
