Abused to the point of losing its snout, Florida pit bull gets new lease on life

Her new name, Khalessi, is fitting for the one-year-old pit bull mix found abused, starving and abandoned in Orlando, Florida.

With a new lease on life, the rescue dog, whose abuser tore her snout off, is now receiving lots of love and attention after her story became public earlier this month.

The poor pup’s appearance bears the marks of the torture she endured. Repeated blunt force beatings, which doctors believe may have been administered with a baseball bat, have left her unable to use her hind legs and her jagged ribs jut out from her sides.

Khalessi’s new adoptive family can’t believe that anyone would want to hurt such a gentle and loving animal.

“She just wanted whoever was abusing her to give her love, so I would ask how, how could they ever treat her this way?” Stephanie Paquin told NBC affiliate WFLA.

Doctors believe Khalessi’s abusers beat almost to the point of death even while she was pregnant with puppies.

Paquin said her heart breaks especially while feeding Khalessi. The dog’s snout injury was left untreated, allowing scar tissue to form over her nostrils leaving her with difficulty breathing and no sense of taste.

“I can put a French fry in front of her, and she’ll eat it. But, poor thing, she has no idea what it tastes like,” said Paquin.

But if Khalessi’s life is any indication of that there is always hope, there continues to be more for her diagnosis.

In the coming weeks, she is expected to undergo reconstructive surgery on her nose and legs. According to Khalessi’s donation page, her doctors believe she will be able to breathe and walk on all fours again.

Just like her namesake character from the TV show Game of Thrones, supporters are cheering on Khalessi’s fighting spirit.
