UPDATE: Evacuees of the Rock Creek Fire are being asked to contact their family members and friends in order that their safety can be confirmed. If you know of any missing people from the fire, you’re asked to call the Red Cross Family Reunification Line at 1-888-350-6070.
If you would like to help the victims of the Rock Creek fire, you can drop off donations at either Macdonald Realty on Main Street in Osoyoos or the Landsea Okanagan office on Park Place. On top of cash donations, contributions of toiletries, clothes, pet food, bedding and non-perishables are also welcome. If you live outside the area and would like to send a cash donation, you can do so through the Red Cross by visiting its website or calling 1-800-418-1111.
KELOWNA – The B.C. Wildfire Service has confirmed that structures have been lost in an aggressive wildfire burning in the Boundary Region.
The Rock Creek fire, east of Osoyoos, was reported Thursday afternoon. It’s pegged 2,500 hectares. The fire has forced the evacuation of 330 homes.
The Wildfire Service won’t confirm how many or what kind of structures have been destroyed, saying it’s still assessing the loss. It does add that Friday’s focus is on structural protection to try and prevent any further property damage.
The fire is zero per cent contained. There are 70 firefighters battling it on the ground with more personnel on the way. Four helicopters and air tankers are also battling the fire.
The wildfire is suspected to be human-caused but is still under investigation.
The forecast calls for precipitation later in the day. Fire crews are hoping the rain will help in the fire fight.
Highways 3 and 33 remain closed due to the fire.
