UPDATE (Sept. 8): RCMP have made an arrest and laid charges in this case.
Stephen Thomas Morse, a 42-year-old Langley man has now been charged with aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, break and enter, robbery, disguise with intent and use of an imitation firearm.
Morse became a person of interest in the investigation during the first week of September. As soon as he was identified, Surrey RCMP maintained constant surveillance while detectives continued their investigation to gather evidence to support charges.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may have seen Morse or known his whereabouts prior to and after the incident on Aug. 12, and up to his arrest on September 4.

Surrey RCMP are investigating after a woman was assaulted in her home.
It happened shortly after noon on Wednesday at a home in the 16700-block of 28th Avenue.
A 70-year-old woman returned to her home after being out for the morning. Shortly after, a man carrying a weapon got into the home and restrained her. He demanded cash and other items, but police say the victim was not able to meet his demands.
He then physically and sexually assaulted the woman, causing significant injuries.
The man eventually left, with only a few items.
The woman was able to free herself and took refuge at a neighbour’s home, where she immediately called police.
She is in hospital being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Late on Thursday evening, Surrey RCMP released pictures of the suspect from a security camera. It shows him using an ATM at the Brookswood RBC at 20059 40th Avenue in Langley.
“The Surrey RCMP has released these photographs of the suspect to seek the public’s assistance in furthering the police investigation into these serious crimes,” said Cpl. Scotty Schumann in a statement.
“We’re hopeful someone will recognize this man and notify police.”
The suspect is described as a man between 20 to 30 years old, approximately 5’8″ – 6′ tall. He has a medium build, with shoulder length, light colored hair that may not be real. He has no visible marks, scars or tattoos.
The suspect is not in custody and police want the community to be on alert, especially in the area in which the incident occurred.
Anyone who lives in the general area and may have seen anything out of place or suspicious prior to or around noon on Wednesday is asked to call the Surrey RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
