WINNIPEG – A blaze broke out in a duplex kitchen Friday night leaving six people trapped inside the two-story home.
Fire crews arrived on scene at 1169 Manitoba Avenue about 11:00 p.m. and started searching for anyone left inside while extinguishing the flames.
Two kids and two adults on the main floor and two more adults on the second floor, where the blaze started, self evacuated.
There were no reports of injuries but fire, smoke and water left damage throughout the house.
Neighbours told Global News residents were moving in yesterday to the top floor.
The property manager said the people were moved in but a box on the stove, which somehow turned on, started the fire.
The Winnipeg Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause.
