Man holds imitation gun to head in downtown Saskatoon

SASKATOON – A man is being referred for an assessment following a firearm call in downtown Saskatoon Friday morning. Police were alerted that a man was holding a gun to his head at the corner of 21st Street and 2nd Avenue.

A member of one of the investigative units was in the area at the time and responded.

The man was quickly disarmed and held until uniformed officers arrived.

The firearm turned out to be an imitation gun, however police say it appeared authentic.

Police say the man appears to be suffering from mental health problems and will be referred for assessment.

Charges are pending for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
