MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Rainfall over the last week has greatly improved topsoil conditions in Saskatchewan. While some areas received small amounts of precipitation, other regions had over four inches of rain.
The weekly crop report released Thursday found topsoil moisture conditions are now 31 per cent short or very short, an improvement from 46 per cent a week ago.

Crops are ripening quickly however the majority remains in poor-to-good condition.
Harvest has started in some parts of the province, with pulses being desiccated and some winter cereal and pulse crops being combined.
Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated at 46 per cent short or very short. Last week’s crop report rated it at 63 per cent short or very short.

Producers are reporting hay quality as 52 per cent fair or poor and a listing service has been set up for producers to advertise and source feed products.
Crop damage in the past week was mainly caused by wind, hail, localized flooding and a lack of rain.
