CALGARY – One woman was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition after a fire in Calgary’s northwest on Wednesday afternoon.

EMS said the woman suffered from serious burns and possible smoke inhalation. She was taken to Foothills Medical Centre.

Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke said the fire at 3717 42 Street N.W. was reported at about 2:45 p.m. The fire was in a first floor apartment of a four-story building, and crews were able to contain the fire damage to the suite.

Henke said the woman was unconscious when crews pulled her out of the apartment. No other injuries were reported.

“It appears the fire originated in kitchen, but it will be up to fire investigator to make that final determination of exact origin and cause,” said Henke.
