WATCH: 13-year-old leads Milwaukee police on high speed chase

Sheriff David Clarke from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office is calling a 13-year-old “rotten to the core” for stealing a car and leading police on a high speed chase Thursday.

According to police, the teen was meeting with his social worker at a health centre who was helping him with his medication when he told her he needed to use the bathroom. She then noticed that her car keys were missing when he didn’t return.

Dashcam footage from a sheriff’s deputy’s car shows the deputy in pursuit of the white sedan which was tracked down by OnStar an hour-and-a-half later.

The video shows the car weaving dangerously through traffic during the chase in a manner more fitting a stunt driver than a 13-year-old.

The driver had picked up four of his friends aged between 13 and 16 before the pursuit had begun, and video shows all of the teens attempt to jump out of the car as OnStar remotely decelerated the vehicle.

All five juveniles were apprehended after a short foot chase.

The 13-year-old driver was on probation for possession of a firearm and is now potentially facing more charges for the alleged theft of the vehicle.

Clarke’s statement on the incident said that the 13-year-old “has no redeeming qualities” and accused him of not being able to “contain himself to not commit a crime when the opportunity presented itself.”

The Sheriff also blamed the juvenile justice system for being too soft on criminal behaviour, creating repeat offenders as a result.

The Sheriff’s Office said all the teens involved were charged with operating an automobile without the owner’s consent, though the passengers may have not been processed. Juvenile records are not made public by the courts.
