Charges laid nearly a year after shots fired near a Vernon park

VERNON–Three men have been arrested and charged in connection with shots fired near Polson Park in Vernon in August 2014.

It happened on Aug. 12, around 8 a.m.

The police investigation revealed the shots were fired in one of the units of the Green Valley Motel, and that ultimately lead to a confrontation in the park.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.

After a short manhunt, four people were arrested in Kelowna. No charges were laid and all were released.

Now charges against three of those men have been approved.

“You have to appreciate that when you arrest an individual, they must appear before the court within a 24 hour period,” says Gord Molendyk with the Vernon RCMP.  “There was a lot of evidence that had to be gathered.  There was a lot of statements that had to be gathered before the crown would approve a charge.  It takes some time to put all of the details together for charge approval.”
