LEGO League summer camp wraps up at University of Regina

REGINA – While not the metal monstrosities seen in movies, children got a chance to build robots out of LEGO this week.

For days, children have been participating in the LEGO League summer camp at the University of Regina.

Youngsters got to build LEGO robots and test them in a LEGO League game from last year’s competition.

While they were using colorful pieces of plastic to build the robots, getting children to think about science was the main goal.

“For me it’s about helping kids be engaged about computing and other stem subjects: science, technology, engineering and math so they might be better engaged citizens as they grow up,” said Daryl Hepting, a professor of computer science at the University. “Because these things are becoming more important in daily life.”

The LEGO League Saskatchewan provincial championship will take place at the University of Regina in December.
