UPDATED: B.C. tour operator locates couple who lost memory card

Campbell River Whale Watching posted this photo of a couple the company wants to identify so it can return a memory card. Facebook

UPDATED: Late Thursday afternoon, the couple was located. “THANK YOU SO MUCH to Campbell River Whale Watching and to everyone who has helped to find us so that our photos can be returned,” Libbie Barton wrote in a Facebook message. “We had an amazing time in BC everyone was super friendly helpful and this just goes to show it. AMAZING. THANK YOU! x … Thank you so much and a massive thank you to everyone who shared. Truly awesome.”

TORONTO — Staff at a popular B.C. tourist attraction are hoping the power of social media will help them track down the owners of a memory card.

Campbell River Whale Watching shared a photo of the happy young couple’s “selfie” on its Facebook page on Wednesday in hopes that someone will recognize them.

“By the looks of the photos [they] have travelled to Scotland, Venice, Greece, France and South Africa,” read the caption.

“We would like to get their camera card back to them and don’t know who they are.”

The card, which was not in a case, was found at the bottom of one of the company’s boats on Monday. It had survived at least a week of exposure to the elements.

Staff told Global News they thought it may have been from one of the company’s GoPro cameras so they inserted it into a computer to download the images — only to discover it was full of the mystery couple’s photos. It is believed the pair were on their honeymoon.

The Vancouver Island adventure tour operator said it is anxious to “return their memories to them.”

Within hours, a man posted clues: The couple, possibly from England, had taken the same tour he did on July 10 and had stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites.

On Thursday afternoon, a Campbell River Whale Watching employee said they think they have identified the couple and have reached out to them via email.
