Summer festivals go 2.0 with entrance wristbands

WATCH ABOVE: Connect & Go co-founder Anthony Palermo tells Camille Ross about the innovative cashless entrance bracelet at Osheaga.

MONTREAL – They’re not exactly lightsabers, but Connect & Go entrance wristbands still have a futuristic vibe to them.

The interactive bracelets themselves are not new – they’ve been used to admit festival-goers to a number of big events, including Osheaga and Île Soniq.

But there are a whole bunch of new features that organizers say they’re excited to share.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Using an encrypted radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip, the wristbands “are taking the festival experience to another level,” explained Connect & Go founder Anthony Palermo.

While they record user activity, they also allow organizers to zero in on what people like, what works and what doesn’t.

Each bracelet collects data that event organizers and festival-goers can access and share – that means no more lost tickets or passes, the wristband is all people need to access festival sites.

Always losing you’re wallet at Île Soniq? There’s a cashless function for that, too (this option won’t be available for Osheaga).

This year, festival-goers will be able to link their credit cards to their wristband and use it to make all their purchases.

How’s that for a chip on your shoulder?..Or wrist!

**Note: a previous version of this post wrote that Osheaga is going cashless this year. This has bee updated to say Île Soniq is going cashless.
