CALGARY – A photographer from Red Deer is heading to Toronto next weekend to represent Alberta at the national air guitar championships.

Mike Daniels a.k.a. “Michael von Poutine” was crowned provincial champ at a competition in Calgary on the weekend.

He won with his fast-fingered performance of a metal version of the Journey classic, “Don’t Stop Believing.”

Daniels has never played guitar, but enjoys firing up crowds with his imaginary instrument.

“The whole thing about the air guitar championships is we embrace the absurd,” he said.

If he wins in Toronto, Daniels will leave for Finland next month to represent Canada at the Air Guitar World Championships.
