Hamilton police say a 69-year-old man tried sitting on a lawn chair to stop the installation of a new community mail box.

Police say they were contacted Thursday afternoon by the contractor about a man claiming to represent one of the local residences.

Investigators say the man sat on a lawn chair to interfere with the installation, and also used a vehicle to block the site.

Police say the site was not in fact the man’s property but belonged the city.

After failed attempts to get the man to move, police say he was arrested, charged with mischief and released with a future court date.

Canada Post is installing the new community mailboxes as it phases out home delivery, and a judge ruled last month the Crown corporation had the right to decide on the placement of the mail boxes on city land.
