WINNIPEG – Environment Canada issued a weather advisory Thursday afternoon for a portion of southern Manitoba where funnel clouds could possibly develop into the evening.

Earlier today funnel clouds were reported near Carberry and Gladstone.

Weak thunderstorms are expected to develop along a slow, eastward moving system that goes from Lake Manitoba to Pilot Mound.

The weather advisory is not likely to be issued for Winnipeg as the setting for these conditions remain to the west of the city, as well as the Red River Valley.

These funnel clouds are generated by a weak rotation, thus not normally a danger near the ground. There is a chance the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado (smaller and weaker than supercells).

Global News will continue to keep you updated with news when and if the weather changes.
