Vernon city councillors voted 4-3 to grant a bylaw exemption to allow owner Brenda Quint McNeil to keep her pet.

Swine are normally not allowed in Vernon unless the property is assessed as farm land.
Councillor Scott Anderson, who voted in favour, said dealing with the issue was ridiculous and a waste of council’s time.
City staff say the so-called mini-pigs can weigh close to 100 kilograms and live up to 15 years.Vernon
