WATCH: The Assiniboine Park Zoo’s cubs make their public debut on Friday.
WINNIPEG – The Assiniboine Park Zoo’s young snow leopards have been given cool names. Both are called snow – in Japan and Tibet.
The cubs, born in May, are named Yuki, Japanese for snow, and Kang, which is Tibetan in origin, a news release from the zoo said.
TIMELINE: Assiniboine Park Zoo
The names were chosen by voters who visited the Assiniboine Park website to cast their ballots. Berkh, a name of Turkish origin that means strong, Avani, of Sanskrit origin meaning earth, and Nanda, of Sanskrit origin meaning Joy, were the other options. There were 1,119 votes cast.
The cubs went on public display Friday.
They are the second litter to be born to mother Batu and Henry James. Raj and Kovo were born in June 2013. All six leopards live at Assiniboine Park Zoo.
