TORONTO – It may have been Princess Charlotte’s big moment in the spotlight but Prince George stole the show at the royal christening Sunday.
Hundreds of fans lined up to cheer as William and Kate arrived with toddler Prince George and nine-week-old Princess Charlotte at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, a royal estate near England’s eastern coast.
One-year-old Prince George was dressed for the occasion in an almost identical outfit his father wore when Prince William first met his newborn brother Prince Harry at St. Mary’s Hospital in 1984. The outfit consisted of red shorts and a white blouse with red embroidered detailing.
At Sunday’s royal christening Prince George walked alongside his parents and sister, and even peered into the vintage stroller to get a glimpse of his sister in her christening gown.
The event was just the second time Britain’s newest princess, who is fourth in line to the throne, has been spotted in public since she was born on May 2.
The christening was steeped in royal tradition as Princess Charlotte was baptised at the same church where Princess Diana was christened. Another tradition saw holy water from the River Jordan used in the baptism.
The Godparents for the newest member of the royal family were also announced Sunday.
The official Kensington Palace Twitter account tweeted at 11 a.m. naming Diana’s niece Laura Fellowes, Kate’s cousin Adam Middleton, William’s best friends James Meade and Tom Van Straubenzee and Kate’s childhood friend Sophie Carter as Godparents.
