WATCH: 10-year-old boy ‘chillaxing’ on roof gets stuck in chimney

TORONTO – Let the record show: nothing good can come from “chillaxing” on the roof of your parent’s house.

A 10-year-old boy became stuck after he accidentally dropped his cellphone down the chimney while hanging out on the roof of his family home in Irving, Texas – and decided it would be a good idea to go in after it.

“Me and my friend, we were chillaxing on the roof. We got on the chimney just chillaxing and my phone fell into the chimney,” Jayden Wallingsford told the CBS News affiliate in Dallas, Texas.

Wallingsford says he worried his parents would be mad at him for losing his phone, and reckoned he could navigate the chimney like Santa Claus to retrieve it.

Instead, he ended up wedged inside the chimney for almost three hours, until firefighters could free him from his sooty predicament.

“[I thought that] if I went in there, that I could climb back out and then everything would be normal. But I just got stuck at the bottom,” said Wallingsford.

Luckily, firefighters managed to free the boy without having to break the chimney or cause any damage to the home.

Wallingsford was sent to a local hospital as a precaution, but was diagnosed with out a few cuts and scrapes.

His parents are grateful their son survived the ordeal, if not a little exasperated.

“For the time being, I’m thankful my son is alive,” said James Wallingsford, the father of the boy.

It goes without saying that young Jayden has been grounded by his parents – in both the figurative and literal sense of the word.
