TORONTO – In a week that is witnessing a U.S. President quickly become a political jukebox, Barack Obama has done it again after meeting a man named Davy Crockett.
The 53-year-old was hosting a town hall on health care at Taylor Stratton Elementary School in Madison, a suburb of nearby Nashville.
“Is your name really Davy Crockett?” Obama asked a man. “That’s a cool name. But you don’t have that beaver cap.”
“I’ve got one at the house,” Crockett answered, much to the delight of the audience and Obama.
James Davy Crockett went on to explain that he’s been denied social security four times and asked if the President could help.
After promising to expedite an answer, a familiar television show’s theme song came tumbling out.
“Davvvyyy, Davy Crockett!” Obama sung with a wide grin. “I love that.”
David “Davy” Stern Crockett, 1786-1836, was a famous American frontiersman, soldier and politician who died at the Battle of the Alamo and has repeatedly been labelled the “King of the Wild Frontier” in popular culture.
Obama’s dulcet tones also made headlines last Thursday when the American president broke into Amazing Grace during a funeral for a Charleston church shooting victim.
