WATCH: The White House beefed up the fence along its parameters Wednesday. Sharp, metal points were installed along the existing North Lawn fence.
WASHINGTON – The Secret Service says it will install sharp metal spikes on the White House fence after intruders scaled it twice in less than a year.
In a news release, the Secret Service and National Park Service say the spikes are a temporary security measure until a long-term solution is found.
Installation begins Wednesday and is expected to continue for about six weeks.

The final design for a permanent security improvement will be submitted in the fall to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and National Capital Planning Commission.
Last September, a Texas man was able to climb over the fence and run deep into the executive mansion. In April, a California man was arrested after scaling the fence and getting onto the White House lawn.
