Edmonton homicide detectives investigate serious assault

EDMONTON – Homicide detectives are investigating a serious assault, which left one man in critical condition over the weekend.

Around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Edmonton police and EMS crews were called to the area of 122 Avenue and 97 Street. Police say a man was stabbed during an altercation. He was treated on scene and taken to hospital where he remained in critical condition Monday.

Police say a 23-year-old male suspect was located at a nearby residence and arrested. Mitchell Lee Anderson of Manitoba has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with the incident.

Police say the men were not known to each other. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Anderson is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 2.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
