Downed trees, power lines after Metro Vancouver hit by windstorm

UPDATE: BC Hydro says only a few hundred customers remain without power as of 8 a.m. this morning. 

BC Hydro crews are very busy today, trying to restore electricity to thousands of people after a windstorm blew tree branches onto power lines.

At one point, there were nearly 10,000 customers without electricity in Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.

The hardest hit areas are Burnaby and the North Shore.

According to BC Hydro’s website, the power should be back on by 10 o’clock this morning.

The downed trees and branches are also creating obstacles on the road for drivers.

Some residents were Tweeting about wind gusts in their neighbourhoods.
