TORONTO — The father of Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson says he has disowned them following a “malicious” Instagram post on Father’s Day.

“I say to them now, ‘I set you free.’ I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three,” Bill Hudson is quoted telling The Mail on Sunday. “I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own.”

Bill and actress Goldie Hawn had Oliver and Kate during a four-year marriage that ended in 1980.

On Father’s Day, Oliver Hudson posted an old photo of himself with Kate and their father and captioned it: “Happy Abandonment Day.”

Kate posted a photo of herself with Kurt Russell — Hawn’s longtime partner — and wrote: “Pa, just simply… thank you. Happy Father’s Day. I love you to the moon and back.”

Bill called Oliver’s Instagram post “a dagger to the heart” and “a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack.”

He added: “If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded. I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over.”

Bill said the photo Kate posted online was “intimate” and “inappropriate and unsettling.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He said his two famous children are “dead to me now” and he wants them to stop using his surname.

“They are no longer a part of my life,” the 65-year-old said. “I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.”

Bill blames the family drama on Hawn, who began a relationship with Russell in 1983.

“When we split up, she never had a bad word to say about me,” he told the Mail. “But when Kurt came on the scene, the narrative changed and I became the big, bad wolf.

“I would say to her ‘Goldie, why are you trashing me and saying I’m an absent father when it’s simply not the case?’ and she’d laugh and go ‘Oh Bill, you know it makes for a better story.'”

Bill accused Hawn of alienating him from his children.

“At one point, I was writing a letter to my children every week for a year. Did those letters ever get to them? Who knows?”
