Semi rollover closes Highway 770 Genesee bridge

EDMONTON — A portion of highway southwest of Edmonton in Parkland County was closed after a semi tanker full of fuel rolled into the ditch Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 12:30 p.m., about 40 kilometres southwest of Stony Plain. The semi was driving on Highway 770, when it lost control near the Genesee bridge across the North Saskatchewan River.

RCMP from both Stony Plain and the Thorsby/Breton detachments responded, along with a HAZMAT team and fire fighters from Parkland County Fire Services.

Police could not say what kind of fuel was in the tanker, but said no liquid leaked into the river. RCMP said the driver of the semi was hurt, but did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

The highway, including the bridge, was closed between Range Road 24 and Range Road 30, and police were not sure when it would be re-opened.
