Changes in Nova Scotia could be good news for Okanagan wineries

Nova Scotia announced today that their residents will now be able to import wine from other Canadian provinces for personal consumption.

The change will make it possible for B.C. wineries to ship their products directly to Nova Scotia homes.

“It’s fantastic news for our industry,” says Maggie Anderson marketing director for the British Columbia Wine Institute. “We have 252 wineries here in British Columbia and we attract over eight hundred thousand visitors every year, some of which are from Nova Scotia.”

Anderson explains the change will allow wineries to ship their products to Nova Scotians who have come to visit their wineries.

“The wineries are asked on a daily basis, ‘Can you send it to me?’ and unfortunately for some of the provinces the answer is no,” she says. “Now they can legally, honestly and happily say yes.”

By making the change, Nova Scotia joins British Columbia and Manitoba as the only three provinces to allow this type of wine import.
