WATCH: Queen Elizabeth Park zipline to thrill riders starting Canada Day

WATCH: The breathtaking ride is set to open on Canada Day. Asa Rehman reports.

Thrill seekers will soon be able to get a bird’s eye view of one of Vancouver’s most beautiful parks.

Plenty of people have walked through the pristine grounds at Queen Elizabeth Park, but no one has soared over it.

Starting next Wednesday, you’ll get that chance. A new zipline is set to open on Canada Day.

The crews have one week to assemble the portable structure. The zipline was approved by the Vancouver Park Board back in April.

Queen Elizabeth Park is turning 75 years old this summer. It is the highest point in Vancouver at 152 metres above sea level and has a spectacular view of the park, city and the North Shore mountains.

It’s hoped the attraction will create a buzz about the park and lure more people inside the Bloedel Conservatory, which has survived the threat of closure five years ago, but kept open thanks to the VanDusen Botanical Garden, the Vancouver Park Board and Friends of Bloedel.

It received a new $2.5-million roof for its 45th anniversary in September in hopes of attracting more visitors.

The 15,000 to 30,000 people expected to fly down the newly constructed zipline could give the Conservatory a boost during the summer months.

The ride will be open until October.
