Community support for a southern Alberta family

WATCH: Law enforcement and first responders in Claresholm and Stavely are making sure kids are prepared and stay safe on their bikes this summer. As Quinn Campbell reports Tuesday’s Bike Rodeo was extra special for three lucky kids.

CLARESHOLM- A few tears, but mostly smiles for a Stavely family.

Three shiny new bikes were handed over to little Isabella, Bryson and Arianna Bostock.

The trio thought they’d have to spend the summer without wheels after they were destroyed in a fire.

“They all burnt in the garage we had, it was really sad,” said Bryson.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

For mom Shauna, she could not be more grateful for the community she lives in and the support they’ve shown her family.

“It’s awesome how everyone came together, the community of Stavely and Claresholm, it’s awesome. We thank everyone.”

The bikes were handed over to their proud new owners at a bike rodeo in Claresholm on Tuesday.

Organizer Jason Hemmaway says the bikes are more than just a summer pastime – they’re a lesson on coming together and supporting one another.

“Teaching kids at a really young age what community is, hopefully plants that seed that hey, community is a pretty awesome thing and they will help that grow.”

The new rides weren’t the only thing given away at the bike rodeo.  Elementary students from Stavely and Claresholm also took home some valuable safety tips.

“It teaches kids about helmet safety first of all, second of all just knowing what signage means – a stop sign, a yield sign, a red light, a green light,” added Hemmaway.

The event was put on by a number or organizations. The Southern Alberta Road Safety Society, The RCMP, Peace Officers, The Town of Claresholm, The Stavely and Claresholm Fire departments along with Home Hardware, The Elks and The Kinsmen.

As for the Bostock kids, they can spend the summer practicing the safest way to ride, thanks to the generosity of those around them.
