WINNIPEG — The province is investing in a new online portal to help more students attend post-secondary education institutions.
ECampusManitoba.com will allow students to go online and complete a number of tasks with the click of a mouse.
“This is the way of the future,” Education Minister James Allum said Tuesday.
The online system allows students to transfer credits, access online textbooks and transfer courses.
“There seem to be barriers between each of the institutions and by working together, we can make it easier for a student to start out in a training program, go to a college program, then go to and get a university education or trades and eventually get a job,” Premier Greg Selinger explained.
The strategy has been in the works for several years. Part of the website is already up and running; other links will take until December to be operational.
The site is part of the province’s work “trying to develop a seamless education system, from kindergarten to university,” Allum said.
Since 1999, Manitoba universities have seen an increase in enrolment of 42 per cent and college enrolment has grown 52 per cent.
