Laval daycare cuts meat from lunches to save money

WATCH: A Laval daycare has pulled meat from its menu to keep up with tight provincial budget cuts. Global’s Billy Shields reports.

LAVAL – Les Pet’ts Soleils daycare served its toddlers a chicken lunch on Tuesday – nothing too fancy, except it’s the only time the kids will eat meat this week.

“This is not a bad thing per se,” said director Sylvette Mousset.

The daycare decided in March to trim its expenses in the wake of provincial budget cuts.

The daycare said it has already let a secretary go and shifted another full-time employee down to part-time.

For some parents, the new menu was a bit of an adjustment.

“She doesn’t like eating everything,” Sandy Smith, a parent with a daughter at the CPE.

“But that’s how it is at home too.”
