TORONTO — Former actor Jake Lloyd, best known for playing a young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, remained behind bars Sunday after being arrested for leading officers in South Carolina on a high speed chase.
According to the Colleton County Sheriff, the 26-year-old is facing charges of reckless driving, failure to stop, resisting arrest and driving without a license.
Lloyd, who now goes by the name Jake Broadbent, is being held on $10,700 bail.
Police allege that during the 20-minute pursuit, Broadbent hit speeds of more than 160 km/h, crossed the yellow line and drove into oncoming traffic. He lost control of his silver Nissan and crashed through a fence.
Broadbent allegedly kept driving until his vehicle crashed into several trees.
Police said they don’t believe the accused was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Prior to Phantom Menace, Broadbent appeared in the comedy Jingle All the Way. He made one other movie (the made-in-2000 Madison) and voiced Anakin Skywalker in several Star Wars video games before announcing he was stepping away from acting.
