A kayaker in the water off Vancouver Island was rescued Friday night by crew members of the BC Ferries ship MV Quinitsa.
It happened around 9:45 p.m., one nautical mile north of the Buckley Bay terminal. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre asked BC Ferries for assistance shortly after, and the MV Quinitsa’s rescue boat was launched from Denman Island.
The crew rescued the woman in the water and took her to a waiting ambulance on shore. The rescue boat also towed the kayak to shore for retrieval.
“Our crew demonstrated their professionalism and their commitment to safety by performing this rescue,” said Deborah Marshall, BC Ferries Executive Director of Public Affairs.
“We are very proud of their actions and events like this one show that all of their training and the drills they routinely conduct are invaluable out on the water.”
