Community rallies around victims left homeless by Chilliwack apartment fire

WATCH: The city of Chilliwack is rallying around families who were left homeless by a suspicious fire

Residents of a Chilliwack apartment complex that was destroyed by fire Monday morning are trying to put their life back together.

They have been getting a helping hand from local businesses and neighbours.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The kindness of everybody here has just been amazing,” said resident Shelleen Harwood.

Many residents didn’t have insurance and are now relying on the generosity of the community to help them through this difficult time.

“We lost everything,” said resident Tammy Simpson. “We’ve been there six years–very stable and very structured. We have an 11-year-old son. He’s very devastated right now as well.”

While the cause is still under investigation, police say the fire appears to be suspicious in nature and may have been targeted.
