SIU investigating after jeep hits tree, killing man in Lavigne, Ont.

LAVIGNE, Ont. – The province’s police watchdog is probing the circumstances around the death of a man in Lavigne, Ont., east of North Bay.

The Special Investigations Unit says police received a call around 11:30 p.m.. on Tuesday about a Jeep Cherokee being driven by a man.

An officer saw the vehicle and attempted to follow it but lost sight of it soon after.

Around 11:45 p.m. police say they received a call about the vehicle hitting a tree and catching fire.

They say the driver of the jeep died of his injuries.

The SIU has assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of the incident.
