Northeast Calgary home struck by lightning

CALGARY – Tuesday night’s stormy weather is not unusual at this time of the year, but for one family in the northeast community of Martindale, it’s a night they won’t soon forget.

Lightning struck their home, leaving a huge hole in their roof.

Fire crews were dispatched at about 8 p.m. for reports of a house fire.

A mother and her child were inside, and were shaken up but uninjured. They said lightning hit the house and fire spread to the attic.

Firefighters responded and put out the flames, making sure no hot spots flared up overnight.
