TORONTO — Canadian former hockey pro Sean Avery will marry model Hilary Rhoda this fall in the Hamptons.

“We’re just getting it together now after a year and a half of being engaged,” Rhoda, 28, said in an interview with Hamptons magazine. “We’re just starting to meet with wedding planners and figure out where we’re going to do it.”

The couple said they chose to tie the knot in the upscale area of Long Island, New York because they have a home there.

“We were thinking of doing it at some destination, but it really is just so much more personal and also a little bit easier than some exotic island somewhere,” said Rhoda, a Maryland native who was the face of Estée Lauder and appeared in three editions of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Avery, 35, was born in Toronto and raised in nearby Pickering. During his NHL career, he played for the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars and New York Rangers.

Upon retiring in 2012, he took a job at a New York City advertising agency and dabbled in modeling and acting before competing in season 18 of Dancing With the Stars.

Avery previously had relationships with actress Elisha Cuthbert and model Rachel Hunter.

Avery told Hamptons he doesn’t believe the couple needs a wedding planner.

“I could set this wedding up in the next couple of weeks, and everything would run smoothly,” he boasted. “I have it conceptualized in my head, and we’ve discussed what we want to do.”

Avery said the special day will involve “all of our friends” and will be “fun and beautiful.”

Rhoda admitted it hasn’t been easy being engaged to the famously hot-tempered ex-hockey player.

“I suggested the other day that he should take up boxing, because sometimes with the aggression—he played hockey his whole life, and in hockey games there’s fighting—sometimes that can bubble to the surface,” she said.

“I can sense that he needs to get it out, but he’s super calm in day-to-day life.”

Rhoda said Avery isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

“Sometimes it can hurt him because some people don’t understand his humour or they don’t understand that he’s not being totally serious,” she said. “Some people misunderstand him and think he’s a jerk, but if you know him or you’re friends with him, he’s one of the kindest people and one of the gentlest people.”

Avery agreed.

“The stories about me being a little crazy are true, but I’m also extremely chill and try to be brutally honest always,” he said, “which sometimes gets me in trouble.”
