If you’re in urgent need of a job right now, there’s apparently a groundswell of transportation openings throughout Atlantic Canada.

Maritime employers are the most “upbeat” about hiring intentions through the summer and early fall, a new survey suggests, notably in the fields of finance, insurance, real estate, public utilities and transportation.

“Employers in Atlantic Canada expect the most upbeat hiring climate for the coming quarter,” Manpower Canada, a human resources firm, said in its latest installment of its employment outlook released Tuesday.

Manpower said its employment outlook for the region is 14 per cent – a number arrived at by taking the percentage of employers who say they plan to add to payrolls and subtracting the percentage who say they plan to eliminate jobs.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted employment outlook is nine per cent, a figure that reflected “a mild hiring climate for job seekers.” Manpower conducts the quarterly poll with just under 2,000 companies of all sizes.

The report comes as Canadian employers ramped up hiring in May, according to Statistics Canada, with unexpected strength coming from a wide range of sectors and regions.
