CALGARY – A memorial was held on Sunday for a Calgary artist who was killed earlier this week.

On Thursday, the body of 43-year-old Ryan Delve was discovered on a pathway near the 5th Ave flyover.

Delve was well-known in Calgary’s arts community and to pay tribute, friends held a celebration of life in front of a mural he helped to create.

The “Helping Hands” mural is located in the East Village, not far from the Drop-In Centre.

Delve painted it with help from other artists, like Mark Vazquez-Mackay.

On Sunday, Vazquez –Mackay and other friends got to work restoring the mural in the hopes of keeping his memory alive.

“I think it’s important to keep Ryan’s legacy alive and the mural was done a year ago, so it’s a little bit dilapidated and worn-over,” says Vazquez-Mackay.

“I think when someone passes on it’s important to take a look at their impact on the community and the world at large… and I think by making it shine we’ll remind people how important he was.”

Police confirm Delve was murdered, but have not released the cause of death.
